Tunisia launches national e-commerce platform to expand market opportunities for women producers
A new national e-commerce platform dedicated to women producers has been launched in Tunisia, creating a new pathway for women to promote their products, reach markets and strengthen their economic opportunities.
Developed under the leadership of Tunisia’s Ministry of Family, Women, Children and Seniors, with support from FAO through the Joint Programme on Accelerating Progress towards Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE), the platform responds to one of the key challenges repeatedly raised by women participating in the programme: access to markets and opportunities to better promote and commercialize their products.
With national coverage across all 24 governorates, the platform is designed to progressively bring together women producers, both individually and through their agricultural professional organizations (OPAs), and connect their products with consumers.
Its development has brought together several ministries and national institutions. Regional committees involving relevant sectors, including agriculture, health and commerce, are responsible for verifying and validating products before they are integrated into the platform, supporting quality and compliance. La Poste Tunisienne is also part of the mechanism, providing delivery of products purchased through the platform.
The first version of the platform is now operational and will continue to evolve based on its initial use and feedback. More women producers, OPAs and products from across Tunisia are expected to be progressively integrated, expanding the range of products available and opportunities for women to access markets.
For JP RWEE, the launch represents an important milestone as the programme moves through its final year of implementation in Tunisia. It builds on broader efforts to strengthen women’s productive and entrepreneurial capacities while creating concrete pathways that connect production with more sustainable market opportunities.
